Kingswood School, Westwood House

About

Westwood house is an accommodation block housing both staff and pupils at Kingswood School. Dating from the early 20th/late 19th Century it is of traditional stone masonry construction with timber floor and roof structures.

Buildings of this period, on sloping sites, often display long term differential settlement, and it is important to be able to establish probable cause to assess whether movement is historic, or likely to be progressive and if the latter, what can done to ensure future stability.

In this case following inspection and investigation movement was related to the growth in adjacent trees, and we were able to make recommendations for future tree management.
