Birch House sits just below Richmond Green in Bath, at the top of the escarpment. A piled diaphragm wall was used to achieve slope stability with the house sitting on piled ground beams bored into the inferior oolite rock formation some 12m below the site.
The superstructure uses insulated concrete formwork and precast flooring units as a basis for the sustainable design solution driven by Architect and Project Managers CMS.
In a later phase a garage and roadway were installed across the slope using ground anchors to restrain a deep piled ground beam used to stabilise the road structure.
